Cookie Policy

What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored in your browser when you visit a website. They help websites remember information between page visits. WriteClean uses localStorage (a similar technology) rather than traditional cookies for most storage, but this policy covers both.
Our Cookie Philosophy
We keep it minimal. WriteClean has no advertising network integrations, no Facebook Pixel, no Google Ads tracking, and no cross-site user tracking. We use the least data necessary to make the tool work and improve it.
Cookies We Use
Essential (Always Active)
These are required for WriteClean to function. They cannot be disabled.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| wc_cookie_consent | Stores your cookie consent choice so we don't show the banner on every visit | 365 days |
Preference Cookies (Optional)
These make WriteClean more convenient to return to. Only set if you consent.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| wc_voice_mode | Remembers whether voice-preserving mode was on or off when you last visited | 90 days | |
| wc_last_mode | Remembers which tab you last used (Grammar / Style / Humanize) | 30 days |
Analytics Cookies (Optional)
Anonymous, aggregated data to help us understand which features are most useful. No personal data. No advertising use. Only set if you consent.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| wc_session_id | Anonymous session identifier for counting visits. Not linked to any personal information. | Session | |
| wc_feature_use | Records which tool modes are used (Grammar / Style / Humanize) in aggregated, anonymous form only | 30 days |
Third-Party Cookies
WriteClean uses Google Fonts for typography. Google may set cookies as part of font loading; these are governed by Google's own cookie policy. We have no control over these and they are not used for advertising purposes on our site.
We use an AI API for text processing. This API call does not involve cookies โ it is a server-side request that does not set anything in your browser.
How to Manage Your Cookie Preferences
You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the small ๐ช button in the bottom-left corner of the screen. This reopens the preferences panel where you can toggle analytics and preference cookies on or off.
You can also clear all WriteClean cookies by opening your browser's developer tools (F12), going to Application โ Local Storage โ writeclean.app, and deleting the wc_cookie_consent key. The banner will reappear on your next visit.
Browser-Level Cookie Control
All modern browsers allow you to block or delete cookies entirely via Settings. Note that blocking essential cookies may prevent the tool from working correctly:
- Chrome: Settings โ Privacy and Security โ Cookies
- Firefox: Settings โ Privacy & Security โ Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences โ Privacy โ Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings โ Cookies and Site Permissions โ Cookies
GDPR & ePrivacy Compliance
For users in the European Union and EEA, our cookie banner is designed to comply with the GDPR and ePrivacy Directive requirements:
- Consent is asked before any non-essential cookies are set
- Consent is granular โ you can accept analytics without accepting preference cookies
- Refusing consent is as easy as accepting it ("Necessary only" is a clear option)
- You can withdraw consent at any time via the ๐ช floating button
- Consent records are stored with a timestamp
CCPA (California)
WriteClean does not sell personal information. Our analytics cookies collect anonymous, aggregated data only and do not constitute a "sale" of personal information under the CCPA. California residents have the right to know what data we collect โ the complete list is in the tables above.
Changes to This Policy
If we add new cookies or change how existing ones work, we will update this page and reset consent banners to notify users. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version.
